Not necesarily hacking the DC but...
well, How do you use DCDivx?
I know how to encode the files, but I just cant seem to find an easy enough guide to take the converted movie and put it on a CD the DC can read
If I can figure this out, I think I will try and do a portable DC after my N64 and SNES attempts to use as a powerful handheld and a portable VCD player
funny, I can swap ram chips and mod the bios on my GP32 but cant understand the damn readthrough I found
so, could some one put it in idiot terms for an idiot when it comes to the DC???
thx a lot

( PS I am glad I found this forum , its like a link to all the portable questions that I thought I would have to answer my self, I didnt think many people had made portables before... )

Have you tried using DCDivX for Dummies?
Just put your videos into the DcDivx folder (you should also put a dummy file in that folder as well, so the DC's gdrom drive won't get messed up)then run makenero.bat and it should make an image you can burn in Nero. You may need the dos program choice.com for it to work correctly. Also I know that it works in Windows 98, but I don't remember if it works under Windows XP or 2000.

well, I did that, not sure what you ment by dummy file , like what type of file
I put just a movie in the folder ( along with the 4 files that were in it ) and then made another one with 2 movies thinking the second might have to be a movie to be a dummy
well, they burned, but wont work on the Dreamcast....
Do I need another disc, like a booter?
or, do I need to take out the extra files except for the movie and one extra file type that someone will specify?
my Dreamcast has played a burned music CD before, and the memory cards with it had SNES saves on them , so it should play burned discs right?

A dummy file is just a file filled with zeroes to take up space. You can find free programs to make them with. You should name it something like 00000000.dat to make sure it is at the beginning of the disc.Octavious wrote:well, I did that, not sure what you ment by dummy file , like what type of file
No, you shouldn't need one.Octavious wrote:Do I need another disc, like a booter?
I haven't messed with DCDivX for a long time so I'll check to see if there's anything else that's needed.

well... hmm... thats odd, my DC should play burned games...
could you email me your dummy file?
also, did you have the movie, the four files, and the dummy file in there?
and did it work from boot?
or, to make a dummy file, should I just make a text file and leave it blank, name it the dummy? If so , could you please try? I have 3 cdr's left uintil the weekend
if you cant, thats ok, ill take a chance
thx for the speedy responces
and what do I do with the files in the Progs folder?
should i run any of them / when??

Get a dummy file maker. It makes a file filled with nothing, pushing all the data to the center of the disc. This puts less ware on your system.
