Ok, I'm gonna say it again, you cannot use that as a screen.

You cannot use that screen without using the board(s) from inside the camera/ It would be foolish to do that because you would be powering tons of extra hardware that would do basically nothing. (you said you want it to fit in your pocket.) This would also need more batteries.

If you want a truly tiny screen (with matching power requirements), you should look at the LCD modules at www.aeicomp.com . Here's a couple:

You definitely will need a compact screen with your design, and I'm not sure how small you can hack down an Intec or Hip Gear screnpad. If you are serious about making it really small, you should consider getting one of these screens. (I recommend the 2.5" model; it's the same approximate size as the screenpad screens.)

You can, however, use the camera's lithium battery! Just use the camera itself as the charger. (I would use my camcorder's battery for a portable, but it's lead-acid... yeah it's a camcorder from 1988, and it takes full-size VHS cassettes. Old school, huh? )

Does the smallest screen have sound? Or would that require a whole other set up? As for the battery of this portable, I think I'll just use som cheap battery from radio shack. They have ones almost as cheap as Ni-Cd cut are much better.

Unfortunately, all screens from AEI come with no amplifier module. You can buy a cheap audio amp off digikey such as the MAX9770 (if I recall correctly). It runs on 2.5v-5.5v with a very low amp consumption. I think it comes in SMD and DIP, both 28 pins, which is pretty big, but it's high quality.

A small amp that requires the same 2.5v-5.5v is the MAX4298. It's a half-as-large-as-the-last-one 14-pin DIP chip that consumes 100mA, which isn't too bad. Unfortunately, the MAX4298 requires quite a few external capacitors and resistors, which might increase the size of the module.

If you want a built in audio amp, you're gonna have to buy an intec/hip gear screen.

EDIT 2: For this project, I don't recommend anything from AEI, the screens need 12v, minimum. So unless you know how to work step-up regulators, stick with the classics, a Hip gear.

He bought the LCD from Jelu WebShop (site isn't working for me... don't know if it's down or just me).
It's a phone LCD with custom PCB, don't know what inputs it takes though.
Should be ultra low power consumption, and ultra small... maybe too small? You could just about mount it in an unmodded Radica!

I think it uses a parralel port for an interface, and it can't refresh that fast, so it can't be used (I don't remember the specifics, I read that a couple weeks ago and don't have time to read it again, so correct me if I'm wrong).
