my 3 in one controller

i somewhat got the idea from the coleco gemini controller since its both an atari paddle and joystick, im making this controller so it can be used for joystick games, paddle games, and i threw in a second button for sega master system for the rare times i play it, i'm putting two switches on, one to switch between paddle and joystick, and then one to switch which button is used for fire, i havent started wiring yet but i have hte basic idea of how to do it tho i'm bound to run into something, its coming out great but i realized i bought the wrong switches, oh well, checkout the pics

as you can see i went g-force style with the buttons

well i havent wired it yet so theres no cord attached, im wondering how im gonna do that, cuz its about 8 or nine wires, i'd rather not electrical tape the whole thing, i have this wire tho that has like 5 different wires within it, so i was wondering if i could buy wire with around 8 single wires within it to keep it all clean, its basically just different colored wires all cased into one, sorta like a controller cord

If you need 8 wires, you should look into ethernet wire. Cat-5 vs Cat-5e is irrelevant, just pick what length you want. (If you get a long one, comething like 14' or more, you could have 2 easy 7' long wires for 2 controllers, for example.

thanx for the idea, maybe ill put a female end on the controller so that the cord is removable, that cord has 8 wires within it? also whats the difference between all the ones on comp usa? are they all basically the same thing?

Looks very cool. I've never seen an 8bit controller that is well complecated.

I also was to say I fix your link, if you're using [img] tag around a picture you don't need to have [url] there as well. I also deleted your double posts.

Yep. Basically they're all the same except for length. Just make sure it's a patch cable. A crossover cable has a couple pins reversed so you can hook 2 computers directly between each other without needing more network hardware. Patch cables have the same pins on both ends.

An example:
Patch cable : 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8
X-over cable: 1-2-3-7-5-6-4-8

Something like that.

I did something similar a while back using a joystick from a hipgear that I ripped apart for the screen. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

nah not a joystick just a d pad type thing. as you can see i bought four momentar yswitches from radio shack, those will act as the d pad for joystick games. ya i'll post up schematics when i'm done, i actually havent been workin on it lately due to just being busy, i still gota figure out how i'm gonna wire up the switches to change it between the controllers, thats gonna be fun
