segasonicfan's portable CDX

Post by johnnyC »

For those who don't know, a CDX is a device that is a Sega CD unit with the ability to play Genesis. It was also the smallest Sega CD unit ever made, and could also play music CDs, and is compatible with the 32X and any generic addon to also include the ability to play SMS games.

But it took segasonicfan's knowledge to turn it into a portable, complete with S-Video, FM Radio, LCD clock, import compatibility, a modded PSone screen for the display, and other awesome features.

What I want to know is how I could make one? It seems so cool. I grew up on the Genesis (and other systems), but I never knew the joys of the Sega CD or the 32X.

I know that CD-ROM based consoles tend to not be the best options for homemade portables, but I still want one. Although I'd like to make one myself.

Although, if I make it myself, I might do some things differently.

For one, instead of a mangled pad from an old Nomad, I might just use a real controller. And I don't need the LED clock.

That I would :P The mangled Nomad case was a personal preference, Nomad has the best controls of any Sega system ever IMO :)
