An Inexpensive Way to Fix Skipping Discs

MY GTA: Vice City disc is skipping everytime I try to cross a bridge, and how do I fix this? It skips as in it says: "Loading", and never loads. I searched Google and nothing. I have an alcohol revolver cleaner, like the ones you rub them in a circular motion. I don't want a skip dr., way to pricy, but lets see some ideas.

Toothpaste.

I've heard that tooth paste and a non-scratching cloth fixes it. I've done that and it seems to work. I used non-abrasive toothpaste, though. And it you have a white crayon, that can fill in the crack (I wouldn't suggest it). You can also lick the scratch, because your saliva fills it in.

Things that work:
- Car scratch remover
- Toothpaste
- Brasso
- Extra-heavy cleaning with rubbing alcohol
- Pledge furniture polish (temporary. Use ONLY if you need to get data off the disc once)

Things that may work:
-Fine paste made from cenfectioner's sugar (may be messy)

Things that would be dumb to use:
- Anything derived from petroleum. This includes gasoline, carbeurator cleaner, turpentine, paint thinner, WD-40...) Petroleum eats away most plastics, so you'll most likely ruin the disc
- harsh abrasives like Comet or baking soda from the box. It would create way too many scratches

You could probably take it to a used games store nearby and buy some cheap thing - and when they're ringing you up, ask "Hey, could you resurface this disk?"

Around here, it only costs $1.50 to get a disc resurfaced.

you can use car wax, but that is only a one or two time deal, so after you fix it, don't scratch it again.

My brother works at a video store, and they have a disk resurfacer there... sooo... you might be able to bribe someone at a video store to do it for you for $5.

boiling the disk (without it touching the bottom of the pot, get something to prop it up) for about 5-10 minutes works better than anything else i've tried
