PayPal n00b here...

Okay, I don't own a credit card, it's my dad's. I know how to send money via PayPal, (on Ebay,) but I don't understand how one recieves money via PayPal. How does it work?

Also, how would one send cash to someone not on Ebay? Sorry for all these idiotic questions, I just need some answers in layman's terms.

The person recieving the money give you their Email address. If you won an Ebay auction, then the process is automated (PayPal is owned by Ebay, they tie in).

The money will come from a bank account or a credit card, depending on how you set it up.

That's why I asked; my friends all get printable check type things, but my mom and some other friends use it, and they get the money wired to a bank/credit card. I would definitely prefer the printable check option; do you have to set up a special type of payment to get a check, or what?

I think all the money you get gets stored in your paypal account, when you want it, you click the Withdraw button up top to choose out of these options:

-Transfer funds to your bank account - 3-4 days - Free!
-Request a check from PayPal - 1-2 Weeks - $1.50
-Shop with a PayPal debit card - Instant (once you get a card) - Get cashback!
-Get cash out of an ATM - Instant - $1.00
-Buy from over 42,000 PayPal Shops - Instant - Free!

Okay, that makes things better. Does your bank account have to be registered with PayPal to transfer cash to it?

That much I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it is partnered with most major bank accounts.

The first time it takes a few days to get the partnership between the bank/paypal going. But after that, it's fast.

If you keep the default settings, your recieved money goes into a balance counter in your Paypal account. That's basically how much Paypal owes you. Always withdraw that money regularly. Why?

When you have a large balance (say $500) in your paypal account and you buy, say, an Xbox 360, you don't qualify for buyer protection and if you get ripped off, Paypal won't refund you that amount. So always keep your balance close to zero. When you but, it'll just transfer the money from your credit card/bank account.
