iPod Video screen?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Uh, what? Are you asking if you can use an iPod screen for a portable? If so, the answer is no. It almost certainly uses digital RGB (as opposed to the analog RGB we can use) and none of us know the pinouts so we couldn't use it even if it did accept analog signals.

And why would you ever use a PSP Screen anyway if you could, there so expensive. A PSone screen is way better anyway

Then use a pocket TV or a HipGear LCD. I actually have a pocket TV I could sell you; the screen is like 2.5/3 inches, $30 shipped. Interested?

screens you can't use: Anthing from Nintendo or Sony's handheld. In fact, any handheld can't and/or shouldn't be used for the screen. The Gamegear can be used, but it wastes a lot of space. The Nomad has an RGB screen, but, of course, you need an RGB signal to use it, and many systems don't have that. Digital camera screens most likely cannot be used, though we can't know for sure. If the camera has TV output, it may, but don't rip up your video camera just for that. Only try it if it's already broken and you can't get it fixed or replaced. Portable DVD players, like the camera, could possibly be used if they have an AV output or input, though (again, like the camera) it's a lot of work and risk to be doing on something that cost quite a bit. PDA screes cannot be used. Cell phone screens cannot be used. Laptop screens cannot be used.

screens you CAN use: PSone screen and hipgear screen are the best/most popular. The Gamecube screens can be used, but they are of low quality and it is inadvisable to use them. Any screen specifically designed to be used for composite, or possibly s-video/RGB can obviously be used. Pocket TV screens with an AV input are usually good. Any kind of screen that hooks up to a console can be used, as well (like the Xbox 360 one, the PS2 7" one, etc.). Basically, if the screen is intended as just that, a screen (an it comes with an LCD board to convert the composite signal and provide power), or if it's part of something else (like the pocket TV) but has an AV input (or possibly output, though if it's just output it's less likely) then it can be used. The first two screens mentioned are definitely the best, though, followed by pocket TV screens.

I'll be closing this thread now, and putting up a sticky for screens you can and can't use, so new portablizers won't have to ask. I will, of course, use the information I just wrote down here :P.

typamc, I'd suggest a pocket tv screen or a hipgear screen, though the latter is less expensive...and yes, ebay is a good place to buy screens.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
