Hell I've worked on consoles more than I've played the past year.

Yes I have been beaten, but I have quite a few friends who helped me out.

Well said. These guys only criticize because we're out of their league. Most of them are also "new" gamers, who all went out and picked up an Xbox as their first console; all the classic gaming forums I post at (Chrono Compendium, TerraEarth, etc.) are all very positive; in fact, I'm even building portables for some of them! And even all the hardcore classic emulation nuts acknowledge that an endeavor such as portablizing is honorable and takes at least some level of skill. So I guess I've been pretty lucky; my friends are all very supportive (and some of them have gotten free portables out of it! ). Not to mention I've made a few new "friends" by showing off my little mods. I can get near ANYTHING at GameStop at a discounted price now!

Jack tore up his arm in a biking incident. He rode over something sharp and it popped his tire, causeing him to spin out of control. He had to go to the hospital.

I already have a GB portable. I got a gameboy, and put batteries in it. And it magically became portable. Also there is no way you have done everything you have done, and exaggerated. As you would be dead by now. I mean, you want to hot glue a hot pocket to someone face. THE HOT GLUE WILL SCAR THEM. You will ruin someones face because you weren't invited to their party because you were too old or something. I mean WTF.

Ladies, simmer down. This is a valid topic, and I'd like to see people's ACTUAL opinions on it; a locked topic does me no good in that department ! We all have our own opinions about certain people on the forum, but the bigger man keeps them to himself.

Although I do agree with Sam on some of those points; smashing someone's property is definitely not a good thing; it's pretty much like burning $200 out of their wallet. Mentioning of illegal things on the forum (like emulation) is already frowned upon, but slanderous illegal things takes it a step too far. Although funny, just laugh about it in your head.

Now, back to the ACTUAL topic.

I had an interesting experience the other day. I had an intelligent conversation with a doubter of portablization. He wasn't an emulation nut or anything, (he didn't even know what it was ) but he was very up to date with consoles and gaming handhelds.

He made some very interesting points that I never thought of before; his main argument was that handheld gaming hardware eventually mimics the hardware of a brethren console: GBC/GG=NES, GBA=SNES, DS=N64. etc.

After that, I gave my argument about a great many games for the mentioned systems that couldn't be played on a Game Boy (CHRONO TRIGGER). Then I talked about the whole nostalgia trip, and the fact that you can't play Gamecube, PS2, or if you're Dave, Xbox on a handheld for a good many years, unless you're a portablizer. By the end of the day, he was complaining about why there hasn't been commercial releases of portables like this! He's even commissioned me to whip him up a Genesis portable.

Which brings up an interesting point; has anyone ever talked with these doubters and converted them? My experience was in real life, and most trolling/bashing goes on in forums, but it would still be cool to know of some success stories.

i have never converted someone who hated portabilising, but i have shown the light to quite a few people who i directed here and they took a look at marshalls L64, for example, and decided to attemp portables of their own.

The first think people do when they see my L64 is ask "Where'd you get the case?". I patiently describe the process of vacuum-forming but it seems like most people go into a state of denial at this point. They simply refuse to accept that I made the case, for some reason. I mean, it definitely doesn't look professionally made.

I think it's because denial is their only way of justifying their lack of knowledge and skills.

Don't even get me started about the crowd on engadget. The first thing they whine about is "Where's the L button? What about the D-pad?" when they should know only a fraction of games ever used them. Again, it's the only thing about the L64 that they can find trouble with to justify their ignorance.

But we need to be careful around these people - though they are annoying, you can't treat them with hate or anger - that's something they alreayd understand. It's better to smile and say "Have a nice day!"
