a Call for RCA selectavison video discs aka CED discs

Post by gamer2 »

My mom's RCA selectavision video discs, AKA CED video Discs were stolen a while back, and she wishes to get some of them back. She will be paying for them not me, but she is looking to only spend $5-$10 per disc/disc set. Player not needed.

The list of movies-
Alien
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th: the final chapter
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Gremlins
Rocky
Starman
The Warriors
The Shining
Star Wars Ep IV: A new Hope
Star Wars Ep. V: The Empire Strikes Back
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
The Goonies
The Breakfast Club
Back to the future
The Posidon Adventure
Escape from Alcatraz
Jaws
Ghostbusters

Whats a RCA SelectaVision videodisc, you ask? Its a very large primitive version of the UMD. Escentally it is a LP, bout the size of a Laserdisc, that is inside a chasy, and a caddie. The disc is read by a Stylus. When you go to play a disc, you stick the whole movie in the machine "caddie and all" the player removes the movie disc and spits the caddie back to you.

The Pros-
The Discs featured a chapter system (later used in DVDs), which would skip to a certain selected point of the movie (each movie had 63 chapters per side). Interactive Discs would have you program the player to play random chapters, the expected resault is a totaly new story each time you watch.

The cons-
The Movies had a Limited Capacity, 30-60 minutes per side. the Disc needed to be flipped at the 60 minute mark. the Discs had a total of 2hr total time limit. As movies got longer, multiple discs were needed for the whole movie (the Movie the karate Kid is a perfect example). Also the discs would wear out after like 500 plays, and get all skippy.

This is what a common CED disc looks like.
