LCD mcds

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

LCD mcds

Post by chanticlair281 »

I am wanting to mod a 5.4" LCD screen that came with a PSone I bought at a garage sale. I need to buy some 3mm White LCD's. I heard that there is a reason to get 3mm instead of the 5mm but does it matter about the MCDs? I know that mcd measures intensity of the light but how does this effect if it can be used for modding purposes?

10000 mcd is good, but it depends on the viewing angle.

LCD v LED

Post by chanticlair281 »

I am a total goof. I was so worried about not sounding stupid that I did not pay attention to what I was typing. I am not on LSD! I really do know the difference between LED and LCD. Thank you for the link. I believe those would give me dark spots on the screen unless I could use more than three as stated in the book. What do you think? I have found a link for http://ledshoppe.com/Product/led/LE4002.htm 8000 mcd led but did not know if they would be bright enough. If I go with 5mm from the same sight I can get 1300 mcd but did not know if the extra 2mm would work. Do the 5mm draw any more power that the 3mm?

Thanks in advance!

A 3mm LED fits better than a 5mm LED. That's why everyone suggests them. I suppose you could try a 5mm (I've never tested that), but it won't be as easy or as snug as 3mm.

5mm LED's won't fit. Not if you don't want to mod the LED's themselves.

As for the dark spots on the screen, sand the surface of the LED's. This will spread the light evenly.

If a member recommends LED's, I'd say those are a safe choice. 4 LED's will work. Even 6 will.

I''m using 4 and it's not bright enough, I'm getting 2 more and going for 6.(but no 2 led's are the same.)
