Ultima PS2 initiative, Now recruiting.

Post by XPCportables »

What is the Ultima PS2 Initiative? It is an initiative to fix all of the glitches with the PS2, everywhere that Sony fell short, to bring gamers back to the PS2. There are so many great exclusive titles on the PS2, but there are things about the PS2 that hold its self back. The controller is one of those things. The UPI will be changing things like the controller, to be more user friendly.

The Initiative is already happening. I have started work on the Ultima PS2 Controller.

It's the controller that everybody wished that Sony had released. It has analog relocation and will be wireless, with built in Ni-MH rechargable batteries and a USB mini port for charging.

We will also be working to make old non slim PS2s much slimmer, with built in network adaptors and even built in hard drives.

I need people to join the initiative, so that we can bring a better PS2 to the PS2 owners, on a mass scale. Tell everyone that you know, I will be creating a website for it too so I hope that this will become huge.

I never had a PS2, but I always hated that the left analog is hard to reach. Will you be doing this for profit?
The reasons I didn't get a PS2:
Controller design
Memory cards (xbox has the equivilant of 1000 8mb cards built in)
2 player, they must have done that so that people with only one friend don't feel bad when they see two ports empty

You plan to fix 2 of the things I don't like, by changing the controller and adding a hard drive (used for saves, right?). You could maybe add a multi-tap for four or eight players. So I'll help where I can, just as long as I don't lose money.

Yes, Everybody who works on this will profit from whatever they do. Sadly the hard drive cannot be used for gamesaves, It can be used to store and boot backups internally, using a boot disc like HDloader or HDadvance. But about the memory card thing, I hadn't thought about that, but now that you say it, we could work on putting high capacity built in memory cards into it. I think that that would be great. It would be easier for Xbox owners to make a transition to playing PS2. The Multitap idea is something that I have been considering, and it most likely will find it's way into Ultima Equipped PS2s.

So is this just something you made up (I searched google and found nothing)? I'll help, any kind of profit is more than what I make now. Is there going to be an online store to sell modded PS2s at, or just ebay?

Yeah I made it up, I am trying to START something here, yes there will be a store, and a website and everything. I need lots of people to help though, people with 1337 bondo skillz, soldering skillz, and general modding skillz. everything that you make will be sold on the store and you keep everything that you get for it. This is not for me to make money but for everybody to pitch in and make what they earn. Ill be preparing designs and Instructions for those who join. You will buy your own parts and do your own modding, then when you sell it on the store, you get all of the money for it. This is the revolution people, we are going to make the PS2 something that it never was on it's own.

I am with ya. I never liked those controls, and the ps2 big version could have some improvements made to it. Cooling system especially.

i've thought about doing that to the controller but didn't think the d-pad would fit. Nice Job :D :!:

Hmmm
I have a few PS2 controllers lying around gathering dust. What kind of mods will you be trying? I'd be willing to give it a shot, as there's not much to do around here lately.

I rather used the Behemoth XBOX Controller because of location of the controls

i think its cool the hacking and stuff but seriously, why bother? its not like sony is going to look favorably at you doing this. i have never liked or wanted a ps2 and would not pay more than 40-50$ max for one, the only reason i would even consider getting one is all the nice 3rd party games and rpgs that should have been released on a better system. i hate sony and everything they stand for and would in no way support anything they do, why bring customers back to a company that actively trys to DETER modification and homebrew. sony themselves have said that psp homebrew is " frowned upon" and that "our tech guys keep getting madder and madder" becasue of homebrew, every time they hack the firmware sony puts out a new one. sony is idiotic and constanly outdoes themself, dropping to a new low and twisting the truth to suit themselves. they have crap tech support and in my experiience and opinion low quality products, they invent and support propretary formats that ultimatly fail etc etc etc /rant

i do admit you are trying to do something cool, trying to give to the poor misguided fans of sony a product that doesnt suck! your trying to do what sony wont, listen to what the people want and give it to them instead of deciding for them what they want
