I-Pod Hacks/Mods?

Post by Sword_Gun »

Hey, I picked up 2 I-pod shuffles the other day, (off a freind), $10 for the working 512 MB, and $5 for the non working 512 mb.

I just have a few questions,

Is there any mods/hacks I can do to a I-pod shuffle to make it look cooler?
Can I add a antenna so I can get radio?

Also, in the usb drive on the I-pod theres a chip inside that goes like this
"--------", the broken one with the USB drive goes like this "----_----", is that the cause of it not charging or even being read by the pc? or was it made like that?

Thanks.

New paint job? Replace the LED? Custom case/charger in an altoids tin?

Kevin Rose did one mod, it was to eliminate wearing head-phones. What he did was got a small piece of plastic (same width and depth as the shuffle), another set of ear-buds, a few drill bits, and some quick soldering. What he did was drilled out the plastic to up the speakers and a hole to run wires thorugh. cut the wires for the buds down so that all it does is run the length of the shuffle, and soldered it all back together. The finished product was having these mini-speakers playing your music and you don't have to have anything in your ears. This was really in responce to wearing it at a gym.

Also, check either hackaday or google. I heard that a guy took 4 shuffles and set them into a RAID configuration. According to what I heard he lost/removed the music playback with this setup.

Well, a lot of the ipod hacks you'll find today are OS mods (My friend put linux onto a nano and now he can play Doom on it XD) but since the shuffle doesn't have a screen I don't know what can be done to it. Check www.hackaday.com
