slim ps2 and screen

hi all this is my first post so please dont flame me if this has been asked a hundred times before. my question is this i have a slim ps2 and a lcd screen witch is a 12v one for car use .what is the best way to pair these up battery wise i think i read somewhere to use a 7.2v for the ps2. would it be best to have a seperate 12 volt battery for the screen thanks a lot all in advance

Just have one 12v battery pack and use a 7808 to send 8v to the PS2.

A 7808 is a type of power regulator. As for where to get one, I know there are various online places that have 'em (try www.mouser.com and www.digikey.com ) but I don't think they're available at RadioShack anymore. You can, however, wire up two 7805 regulators, which are available at the Shack, and they will act as a 7808. Good luck!

How would 2 7805s make 8v? You do this.

the problem with linear regulators (7808, 7805, etc) is that you'd need at least 2 of them to get enuogh amps, they're inefficient, and they make a ton of heat if you use them for high-amp stuff.

what you need is a switching regulator, get a PT78HT208 from here. they're easy to use, efficient, have heat-protection, short circiut protection, output 8v from a 12v-28v source, and have free samples. you also hook them up the same way as the ones most people use in their N64ps so you should be able to get as much help as you need with it
