Digital camera

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Digital camera

Post by littlemal »

Forgive me for asking but can digital camera screens be used for portables?
I have one that I hacked off the broken camera, and will post pics if needed.

What kind of Digital Camera? Does it have composite in/out? DETAILS! (but I am guessing no, there is just a slim chance)

(I'm not that familiar with video signals), but it is an Olympus camera. The Actual lcd screen had a a white and pink whire, and also had a flat ribbon cable. The screen had a PCB next to it, but it wasn't directly attatched, and the board had a video out plug (I'll post pics later but I have to go)

Trace the video out plug and where it goes. does it go directly to the pcb? This sounds a little promising.

Nope, key word, it had video out, meaning it OUTPUTS that signal from the camera, nothing like say an N64 can go back IN.

But, there could be a place on the board where it is accessable. Has anyone here ever hacked any of these? I think not. And if so, have you hacked this model? No, because you don't know what model it is. :P

Ribbon cable coming off the LCD most likely means that it only takes digital signals in. All the LCDs that I have seen that take analog in (including one digital camera LCD), have the converter board directly attached to the back of the LCD.

Well, no. <_< I have worked with two kinds of LCD screens that use analog. Both had flat ribbon cable coming off.

Here are some pics Image

Come to think of it, the screen does have a pcb behind it. (That's what the wires and flat ribbon cable are coming from.) Also that last picture is the pcb that sits right next to the lcd screen, but not directly connected. Thats the one that has video out, (Not the actual lcd)

Have you tried to hook up video to it?

Could you put up a picture of the back of the LCD? I want to see what kind of pcb is behind the screen. If you have the camera part disconnected, video in should work if its possible.

But, when you took the main device apart, was the LCD not directly connected to the PCB that drove it? I'm not talking after all screws were removed from the PCB. Nearly all analog LCDs have a ribbon cable going to the driver board, but normally the LCD is bolted onto the driver board directly. Sorry for any confusion. I have a feeling that I still haven't explained quite to the degree I want still. :? :(

No not yet i'm still trying to figure out how I could.

I'll post another pic of the pcb directly behind the lcd.

Hook the video out to a video signal and see if it works.
