Get a Fender Stratocaster. It's a great guitar for the price (as low as 150 on ebay new and shipped last i checked) and it lasts a long while.

Plus, wth a few upgrades to a basic strat, you can "hack" it into a much better guitar.

What kind of music are you going to play? If your going to play like gospel music then get an epiphone accustic. If your going for rock, jazz, hard rock, oldies, or so on get a Fender Strat like they said! THEY ROCK!!!

I know nothing of electric guitars (though I would really like to buy one and learn how to play it once I learn how to play my acoustic... I also want to learn piano and drums...), but what I do know is that www.zzounds.com is THE BEST place to get musical ANYTHING. Whatever you can't find there (like flutes, for example) you can find at www.musiciansfriend.com. 'Course, you could always be cheap and buy from eBay, but chances are you won't get a much better price for a used guitar on eBay than you will a new one from zZounds.
