I don't know if anyone here knows about this, but someone was making a mini-2600. He had a limited production run of 100 units. His website (search on Google) is now spammed with ads (because he used Wiki). My question: what happened to him, and how far is he in his project?

I don't think so. I found the website backed up on archive.org . I just e-mailed him. Hope he gets back.

I'll be honest with you - I would have never guessed that.

Actually it was a FGPA emulating all three main chips on the atari. And it never was finished/went into production.
