Gameboy Color Overclocking ?

I found a tutorial of how to overclock my gameboy color at

The tutorial seemed pretty easy you just swap out a crystal with a common 10mhz electronics crystal. The other day I was on ebay and found 10mhz HC-49US Crystals / xtals (75p POST UK) it included 10 crystals. Will these crystals work? They don't look like the one from the tutorial, but I think any 10mhz crystal will work, right?

Are they crystals your getting or ceramic resonators? I believe only true crystals will work.

The guy on the Geocities site said that there wasn't a difference between 16 and 37, so what about 10 and 14? Also, will I be able to tell the difference between normal gameplay and overclocked with 10mhz crystal?

The GBC is about 8 mhz. I think much higher than 14 mhz and it won't go any faster. The difference won't be huge if you use a 10 mhz crystal, I'd recommend 14 mhz. Pokemon is still playable, but be warned that on other gameboys it will be painfully slow.

vskid: Can you post a schematic/drawing of the circut you used to recharge your batterys? I'd like to hack out the 1/4" power plug and replace it so I can use my universal 2.0v-9.6v power adapter to recharge some Ni-mh rechargable batteries I bought special for the project. The batteries came fully charged, but with no charger, so I can't just hack the circut out of my charger. I'm sick of going through AA's like they're out of style.

I just put the guts of a GBC battery pack in it, and you need to charge them with 3v if inside of the GBC, because if you turn it on with it taking in 9.6v, its dead.

The crystals I ordered in the post came today, The screwdriver to open my gameboy should be coming in a few days. I'm curious, are those crystals I ordered suposed to de about the size of a grain of rice?
