Well, I got a 6-switch 2600 at a garage sale, along with about 30-40 games and for some reason, 10 joysticks, 4 driving controls, and two paddles.

I took the thing apart, and my face fell. The main board in the 6-switch is HUGE! I stewed about it for a few days, thinking it would be impossible to make a portable out of one of those boards when...

And yes, I also realize that the final version will be about twice that thick. I didn't take the screen thickness into account

Try selling the 6-switch for a 4-switcher, especially if it's a heavy sixer. That will let you cut it down to a 4x4" square.

Yep sell the 6 switch, you should be able to get enought to by a 4 switch and a few extra things (games, paddles, controllers, ect.). Also that cardboard sure looks sturdy. Really don't consern yourself with the case til you have all the guts connected and working. You work on the case too early you can end up with it not fitting.

I would sell the six switch, but I don't know anywhere to find a four switch. I live in a town with 20,000 people in it, and don't have an ebay account.

Also, that's not really a case prototype, just a design prototype (where things go, etc.)

There's always three places to look. Benheck's Trading Post, Ebay, and AtariAge. I can assure you that the last two you will find a buyer and you will find what you are looking for.

Then have your parents make an account. Also having an Ebay account is about as useful as a car without any gas. You still need a means of paying, which is were check, COD or paypal comes in. And those options are up to you.

Using a a 6 switch isn't that much different from a 4. The key difference is that with the 6 switch you can't cut it down as much as a 4, so if you're going to make one that looks like Ben's VCSp you have to use a 4 switch.

they can definitely be slimmed. I am almost 99% sure of it. Just look for useless traces from the rf signal and everything.
