Help me get sound!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Help me get sound!

Post by Kurt_ »

New title, same topic. Update below.

My green bars won't show. I searched but didn't find anything, however I recall this problem having something to do with too much voltage or current or something. The thing is, Tim jsut did his LED mod and hooked his up to his N64. The only difference between the two screens (minus the problem) is that I'm using composite from a SNES and he's using S-Video from an N64.

Also, there IS colour, but barely any, and it appears the contrast is TOTALLY out of whack, making it look like an inverted black and white screen.

What condition makes the green bars go away? What part should I look at? etc etc. Please help!

(Tim says that only Blue is coming through. What messes up the volume and contrast bars, and red and yellow, when hooked up to composite?)

(If anyone has a working PCB but messed up their LCD, i'll take it off their hands :) )

Well I haven't given up, but if anyone has a working LCD with a messed screen (usually not the case, but it doesn't hurt to ask) i'll take it off their hands. I'll pay shipping.

Also, I decided to try to play a game (after accidentally shorting 7.5V to ground and jumping the fuse, deciding I fiddled enough for now).

At apparently random intervals (possibly in sync with sound, I'm not getting sound but the line's hooked up, i'll try with it detatched) white lines skip across the screen.

Horizontal white lines skipping across the screen.

Haha now I'm on top for now!

Here's a picture:

(I did a fast way to cut the file size in half with paint :D )

It appears that the display is not on the edges. Is it possible that this is related to the volume/brightness not showing?

Please tell me, what causes those to go away? What component?

Is the ribbon cable in right?

Did you accidentally swap the composite and ground wires?

I managed to get the colour normal. What I did was plug in a PSOne using the bottom connectors. As long as it was on, it worked. Is this a case of too much power going into the screen? I think so.

Still no sound though. I have the headphone pins bridged. Any ideas?

Perhaps the sound component on your SNES motherboard is damaged. That's what happened to my first attempt at an SNESp. I just had to get a new SNES mini and wire that in.

No it's fine. It's something messed with the screen.

UPDATE:

Well I got the audio working with the right headphone...but in the A/V Jack on the PS1. It only works when you put it in a bit (I'm assuming this is when composite shorts with one of the audios.

The thing is, even with the PSOne and PSOne screen hooked up all nice and everything, the sound STILL doesn't work. Any ideas? Anyone?

Is the audio amp fried or broken severely?

Audio amps don't just brake like that. Have you soldered somewhere near the audio cicuit?

Where is the audio amp on the PSOne screen, and where is the +5Vin pin on it?
