it's impossible to light a GBC screen without a wormlight, i know this from experience. if you try to backlight it, all you'll see is the light, no colors or anything, just plain washed out white. if you put lights near the edges or corners or something to front light it, the LCD won't reflect the light off the screen back at you, it'll stay dark. it only lights up if you have a light almost directly above it.

I just learned this from experience... Maybe if I increase the intensity of the LCD display...
