I am looking for any easy guide for placing LEDs on the inside of my GBC or original GBA
Anyhelp would be nice thanks!
PS. I want them inside my screen so they are backlit, no outside (did that with my original Gameboy)

YOU CAN NOT DO IT.
It is impossible to backlight the GBC or original GBA. The colours wash out and such, plus there isn't much room. They can only be front lit. Buy an afterburner kit or (for about the same price) an SP with a "backlight". It's acutally a front light and I don't like it too much. But hey, that's me.

it can be backlit, jsut not well. I think my diffuser wasn't thick enough, or frosted properly. It did not diffuse the light throughout, but let it escape fairly quickly.Kurt_ wrote:Let me expand on Vb's answer:

It doesn't ahve to look amazing, just be readible on stage.. which currently, it's not.

GBA is not useful for LSDJ.. the old gray brick is the master for that.
Sure it will. LCD screens are transluscent, meaning light passes through. In the case of the gameboy, it's a question of removing the opaque foil from the back, leaving only the transluscent screen (i used a scalpel to peel it off, and it took ages... it's annoying fussy work, as you can't flip the screen over or you'll break the plastic cabling that dliverrs data to the screen.)Skyone wrote:No. It can NOT be backlit. Just peel the foil off the back of the LCD. Then the screen is clear.
my only problem was not finding a suitible diffusing material. i used frosted plastic, but it was too thin.
The light passed through no problem, and i could make out 1/3 of the screen very very clearly. I am thikning of drilling a hole in the case on the top and bottom, and adding 2 more leds, to cover the side and top.
It deffinately CAN be done. The problem is finding the best material to diffuse the light.
I used a square of CD case.. but it's a little thin...
Another major issue was that the power to the former LED in the gameboy is only 2.5 volts. Not enough to light up a 10,000 MCD LED (3.7 is pretty average for those).
So you have to take the voltage from elsewhere, where you can find a higher voltage, buyt not too high, o ryou burn out the LED.
