Ok here's the deal:
I'm running my mini SNES and PS1 screen off of the original adapters.
The grounds are connected, and only the composite video wire is connected.
The screen has barely any colour and the black and white (what's supposed to be colour) is mixed up. An example is SMW has the text in white (ish, some colour abrely visible) and the sky in black (ish).
The PSOne adapter is outputting a dangerously high 10.3 volts. Is this another case of "he ruined something", or is it more like "if you bring the voltage down it will work again perfectly"?
I don't think it's completely messed up or anything, seeing as it was off the adapter, but I can't test it with anything else until my batteries arrive (3.7V 4000mAh Lipos!). If you like those, they're on ebay for 15$ each, and the guy keeps putting more up. Here's the link for thsoe who care. extremely long eBay link
I'll search for the answer, but I'd like your opinion too.

I have a little screen experience. Its still working, so thats good. Its probably just a bad connection.

the only circuit that uses the unregulated 7.5 v is the video amplification circuit.. i never looked up the datasheet on the chips there, but the fact that you got video at all, rather than just blackness with a glow from the CCFLS means you probably haven't totally ruined what's inside.Kurt_ wrote:I have a little more. The voltage should not go higher than 7.7 on that adaptor, and preferably stay at 7.5 around.
Also, you should not draw more than 500-600 mA of current (if you don't know how to check, it's simple.
Use an alligator clip on the outside (sleeve) of the adaptor's little plug, and attach the other end to the outside of the little identical plug which would normally go into the PSOne itself.
Then, strip both ends of a wire.
Put one end (don't plug in the adaptor yet, BTW... ) in the hole of the adaptor plug (the opart that plugs into the screen, there's a little hole. Most multimeter test leads will not enter that small space).
Use an aligator clip to clip the other end of the wire and the POSITIVE (red) lead of the multimeter.
Set your multimeter to current, DC (probably says A then has a solid line with 3 dots underneath). Set it to above 3 Amps (3000 mAmps) mine has a setting of 10 A.
If you have to switch the lcoation of your leads on the bottom, do so (i have to use seperate lead jacks for my 10 A setting)
Then, simply plug in the adaptor, and use the negative lead from the meter to touch the little pin (ONLY THE PIN) inside the screen's AC jack recepticle.
This will complete the circuit, and power will run through your multimeter, which will tell you the current.
WIth sound, video, everythying, it's 500-600 mAmps. If you are pulling significantly more or less, then something is f$*@& up.
But, knowing the amps required, you can get a 7.5v adaptor with more than 600 mA (most multi adaptors will have 600, 800, or 1000 as your options). Set it right, and try it with the correct voltage.
YOu won't be able to run a playstatiopn off that adaptor, but for your purposes, you won't need to.
If it works with the lower voltage (after making sure it's all drawing the right current and everything) then great.
If not, explain more about how you've modified the screen.
Have you separated the bottom portion from the top portion? Cut the ribbon cable?
I had black and white video for a while when adding a screen to my commodore 64, and it would flicker negative (dark would be light, day would be night).
I fixed it by separating the wires i had soldered, desoldering then, soldering them again, and shrinking pvc jackets around each connection. I also checked my solder job to the C64 main board under the Audio Vidio DIN pliug.
If you are stricktly taking the composite out of the SNES mini and putting it into the PSone using an RCA to 1/8" jack converter, make sure the video is ONLY IN THE RIGHT channel (the sleeve, not the ring, or the tip)
Use a STEREO 1.8" jack, with 2 rca inputs. Use the RED rca input for video, and leave the white RCA input EMPTY.
DOes that solve the problem/ it's inmportant to note that for some dumb reason, sony decided to use a single 1/8" jack (always used for stereo audio, like headphones) for mono sound and composite video (right for video, left for sound).
A pain for sure. Why not just put 2 rca jacks in the back? you could fit them.. anyone whose cracked the bottom open knows that..
Lastly, if you have cut the ribbon cable, you MUST GROUND pin 6. Pin 6 is grounded until someone puts in earphones (then it blanks the audio for the speakers). If you ahven't grounded pin 6, yo uwon't hear anything later, and will assume you broke it.

I measured the current. You can only measure the current under a load, because the load is drawing the current.
I ran the little screen as hard as i could, with a rich video signal and lots of audio for the audio amps to work with. 500 - 600 mA was the current needed for screen operation with audio to the speakers.
the voltage, i can only assume, is 7.5... apparently, i'm told, the video amp circuit needs 7.5...
