I just opened my mini-snes (RELOCATION!)

Well.... after using a soldering iron to get off the screw wells holding down the cartridge slot (my screwdriver was too small), i harvested the mobo. <_< Now, I wanna do a relocation. but I can't get the cartridge slot off. it screws up the mobo a little if I try to use a desoldering iron. Help!

I dunno. it just starts peeling all the insulation and stuff off and it will prolly end up frying the thing.

Wierd. Did it do that when you desoldered other components on the board? Maybe the insulator is just old/corroded...

The cartridge slot has just tiny amounts of solder. You didn't relocate yours, I don't think, did you?

Not on the SNES, but I've done so on the Yobo, and now the N64.

the iron is smaller(and I believe weaker) than a heat gun. They are huge soldering irons usually used in plumbing(my dad has one). So if the iron was causing problems by tearing away the insulation I have feeling that the heat gun will peel it even more(and faster).

Unless I've mistaken what I'm talking about for a heat gun.

think super strong hairdryer lol be careful when using a heatgun on the board, cover up everything with a towl other than the area around the bottom of the cartslot, the board will get real hot but i didnt have any problem

Just use a desoldering Iron, making sure the hole is flat and flush with the Motherboard. SUck the sodler up, and use copper braid to suck the remainder. It takes a bit longer but it's the least brutal way to do it.

Try getting another desoldering Iron.
