Noahs Ark, has it been found?

This Texas Archeologist claimes he found Noah's Ark, on the ground. Do you believe this?

I dont, ok according to the bible; Noah's Ark occured long before Christ's birth. Thats well over 2000 years ago the event took place. In any condition, weather it be a wet place, or a very dry place; the ship was made of wood, and its going to decompose no matter what. It would have been gone before the 50th annerversary of the flood on land, 75 in water. They didnt know how to preserve wood, like we do today.

Look at the titanic, its hasnt been 100 years sense the sinking and its almost gone, and experts say it won't last 10 more years.

Discuss, and keep religon out of this discussion.

I remember watching this program about them finding Noahs Ark at the bottom of the dead sea. And that was completely decomposed. Iron or Not, a Ship could not Survive 2000+ years, the remains would be just particles.

Do be so sure. They've found ships that sank centuries ago and for the most part are still together. Infact one I remember hearing about recently (about a year or so ago) they found the ship and in it's stores were bottles of wine. Kept in almost the perfect condition.

The things is that as long as wood is in the right conditions it can last for centeries underwater. I don't know if the fact that being on a mountain were water freezes could keep decomposition from going over it or stop it competely. What I'm getting at is that it is possible for wood structors to survive a long time in the right condions.

As for the idea of if it's the real ark. Well I want to see some tests. I want to see Radio Carbon 13 tests, the type of wood used, the other materials used in it's construction and if people of the time could really have built it. If even one of those fail, then it's not the ark and so needs to be forgotten as such a thing, and renamed what ever else it is.

One thing I was thinking about well looking through the pictures was why haven't anyone use the earth.google.com thing to look at mount Ararat(sp). If you can see your house with it thing don't you think you'd be able to see the shape and outline of a boat that is over 400 yards long?

i think you mean carbon 14 ;)

and i dont think that google has a high-res map of the remote mountains of iran. you might be stuck with a map that has 50m per pixel or something. and then you wouldnt be able to see anything useful.

2000+ years? Seems a little understated.
I think right around 8000 is the general view--this is genesis we're talking about.

Bible aside, there were large man-made wooden objects being constructed in Iran long before 8000 years ago. It could be a boat, or it could be a barn. But since they were looking for an ark, they found one.

please note, AOL is the world's worst news source. When they say "similar to the ark's dimensions" (or a piece of it) they chose to leave out "similar in shape," or "looks like a boat" and chose not to publish any useful picture of the site, dispite the high probability that those clowns took literally thousands of pictures of it. What they found was a large amount of petrified wood, nothing more. if there were anything left to indicate anything more, AOL would have blown that out of proportion too.

Radio Carbon Dating. it's the ratio of carbon 13 to carbon 14.

If it fails any tests for wether it could be built at that time, they will simply say god designed it. Frankly. It will remain "Noah's Ark" until they find a bigger ship on another moutain top.

As for the time frame, much further than 2000 years. Its roughly around 4500 years ago. If buried in the right soil, wood can indeed last for tens of millinia. More likely however, what they found is an old lodging or perhaps even a temple. And if you don't think old buildings can look anything like a boat, why don't you go look at the MayFlower, it's a barn.

As for a global flood, i'm sorry but there is NOT enough water on earth to flood the whole planet all the way to the mountain tops. some versions of the bible claim the extra water was an ocean in the friggin sky, and is what made the sky blue. The sky is still blue, and all this extra water mysteriously vanished.

What could land a ship at the top of a mountain? Easy, mega-tsunami. There is evidence that mega-tsunami have occurred many times through out history. such over sized waves have sprayed over the rockies, showering the the desert lands beyond in torrential down pours.

So lets spin a tale of what is more likely to have happened if indeed some looney in prehistoric times did build a massive dingy. He had a premonition that a great flood is coming, and decides "God" told him. So he builds a massive ship. He loads every kind of animal he can think of onto the ship (just 8 kinds, and 2 of each). BOOM! a large meteor smacks down in the atlantic ocean. The impact sends spray in every direction for thousands of miles, which seems like rain to the simple creatures it pours on. The spray starts creating mild flooding, so the lucky old fool closes his family in the ship with the animals.

The mega-tsunami hits land andfloods over an entire continent, meanwhile back at see there are hundres of new and temporary islands where the water level has dropped thousands of feet. The wall of water marching across the continent and destroys most artifical structures and moves around the rest, including a large ship. millions of plants and animals are killed, some by drowning, others by being slammed into things like rocks and trees.

Finally the wall of water comes to a mountain range too tall for it to flow over, and begins to recede. It deposits the ship on the mountain. a barrel on another mountain (the 2 survivors from greek mythos), purifies a small island, by drowning everyone not living on the mountain top (they believe white people are decended from those that drowned), etc, etc, etc. The whole world begins recovering this the massive disaster. and most of the cultures record just a few survivors, and declare it as proof of thier deities wrath.

Though not all people record this disaster, atleast not in the same time frame. People on the opposite side of the planet record simular disaster, with thousands of years difference in the time frame. Its enough evidence biblical scholars need that the great flood was global. The "great floods on the far side of the planet, where not so great, they were much smaller tsunami, caused by earthquakes. Most of the people in the pacific had been lucky, that thier arrival on those islands where after the last pacific mega-tsunami

Ships from the Roman Empire are still being found, aren't they? Though not the same era, or in perfect shape, it shows a ship can live a couple thousand years, at least...

The Bible Archaeology Search and Exploration Institute?
"There's this idea, if we can prove that the Ark existed then we can prove that the story existed, and more importantly, we can prove that God existed."
?

Give me a break. Finding a large, ancient water craft proves only that someone built a large, ancient water craft, and nothing more. Claiming that a "wood-like" rocky outcropping on some snow-capped mountainside is the remains of a large, ancient water craft is laughable at best.

Furthermore, I don't recall any evidence that man was capable of building a solid wooden structure the size of an aircraft carrier four thousand five hundred years ago. The author of that bible story more likely chose a size he knew would startle and amaze his audience. Religion has its uses, but the pathetic individuals who keep on trying to 'prove' the existence of God are just making fools of themselves, and they will not succeed in the foreseeable future.

True, wooden structures can survive tens of thousands of years, especially in peat bogs and similar conditions where the acidic nature of the environment kills off all the normal decomposers.

(sigh)

I think it's pretty much the hopeful dreams of the archeologists, there's always the small chance it could be the Ark but it's not likely.

The article was so vague and generally unspecific that it's hard to tell what they found. I'd wait until real tests are done and proof is found before I make any judgements.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Noah's Arc simply a parable? It's a story telling us to be good or God will smite us, it's not something taht actually happened.
