No, that won't work.

You have to upload it to either an image host or a website that allows remote linking. (Places like Tripod do not let you link images on websites other than your own, so they won't work.)

Go to http://www.imageshack.us and upload your picture. Then select the "Direct Link to Image" URL on the page it automatically brings you to and copy it. (It should be the bottom text box.) Paste that into the Avatar section on your Profile page, and it will show up.

Remember, you should not use an image that is wider than 220 pixels (I'm pretty sure that's the maximum. Double-check the Rules thread.)
