Sony dude hints at PS3 games being $60 AND UP!!!!11!!1!11
This is a question asked in the August 2006 Edition of PSM.
Quote:
PSM: Can we expect PS3 games to be priced in the same range as Xbox 360 titles?
KH: Generally Speaking, over the past twelve years or so, there has
been a consumer expectation that disc-based games are maybe $59 on the
high end to $39 on the low end. So, what I can say now is, I think it
would be a bit of a stretch to think that we could suddenly turn around
and say "PS3 Games now $99.99." I don't think consumers expect software
pricing to suddenly double. So, the quick answer is that we want to
make it as affordable as possible, knowing that there is a set consumer
expectation for what software has cost for the past twelve years.
That's kind of the best answer I can give you. So, if it becomes a bit
higher than $59, don't ding me, but, again, I don't expect it to be
$100.

My EBGames guys showed me their preorder list of PS3 titles and none are above $59.99
After Reading XPCs Blogg...I know shocking...I really feel that the PS3 will start to run the XBOX 360 for its money, the Wii I believe will be something different (good, yet different)
Think about It, a 360 is only cheaper without all the real stuff, no XBOX Live, no HDVD, Seems that the PS3 might have the same policy as the PS2 for the online games...FREE!!!!!!! I don't know just me I don't feel like paying for months on end...

the fact is hat after 5 years, the console lifespan, there will be $250 paid to the system, then afetr the HDDVD Add-on and all, Also there will be a SONY Standard
What I mean by that is Microsoft always pulls this crap, hey Release a Beta to the consumer And Get Paid for it!
Now The Ps3 will have the four procesors in it but they expect that only 3 of them will be fully functional, hereby they will lock out the odd man and if by chance there is a fourth that works, then they will lock out the fouth anyway, for consistency
This tells me that there will be a better quality standard for the PS3 and the bugs are probably a little more tohugh out the XBOX 360 to me still has a few things that were just not thought out all the way
Also, there is a difference for the standards of money in 2000 and 2006, Iknow inflation has not taken over that hard, but the dollar today doesn't go like it did 5 years ago
I say take your lumps and buy everything, Anything worth having is worth a little more work and putting in overtime...

to correct a few things you said, the ps3 has ONE processor, with multiple cores. sony always pulls this crap, hey lets make a NEW format and see if it catches on! (betamax, minidisc, AAC etc) sony products are not known for their build quality (ps2s crap out a lot) from what ive seen the xb360 is relativly bug free, some minor issues with heat and some software problems but they are sorting them out, im no big fan of M$ but they seem to be doing ok for themselves. i dont see any great sucess in ps3s future but i could be wrong

Sony makes quality products, the PS2 was an exception, the only ones that realy had laser problems were the SCPH-30001 and SCPH-39001 (I have owned both of those models, I killed the first one on accident, and the second one is dying on me {I can't play my copie... I mean backups and homebrew anymore
} so I am unloading it on gamerush tomorrow and gettin me a slim) the other models that got DRE were 95% just too much dust build up on the laser, If you get ahold of SCPH-30000, 30001-R, 50001, 50001-R, and I think 59001-R, you should be good. I have lots of Sony electronics in my house. Why? because they make a quality product and I can trust them, I will trust that when I give my $600 to sony, that I am getting a quality product. By the way Krepticor PS3 has one Processor with 8 cores (SPEs) 7 will be available to the developers, and one will be locked, for redundancy. CELL is the future. It is doing things that standard PC processors just cannot do. I don't know about the outcome of the HD movie war, somebody has to win, I can't tell who it will be though, It all depends on who puts movies on it, and I think that a lot of that will be determined by how well the PS3 sells. Blu-Ray seems like the logical option to me, Higher capacity, the massive price that everybody talks about, is actually only pennies more than DVDs but is simply played up as being a massive price difference, I would say mostly because those pennies add up. Per disc, Blu-Ray should be able to stay the same price as DVDs.

you also have to consider that the bluray player costs quite a bit more than a hd dvd player (999$ compaired to 500, they are selling at a loss actual value is 700) and sony is know for pushing their own formats ending in failure (once again betamax, AAC, minidisc, UMD etc) i would tend to argue that sony products are of a general low quality but that depends on the product, so many are made by other 3rd parties and badged as sony that you never really know who is actuall making it.

All I know is that my Sony walkman MP3 player has taken a serious beating and it still rocks, My two Sony trinitron TVs are the best TVs that I have aver owned, my Sony CD-RW drive is the greatest disc drive that I have ever seen (It copied an entire Audio CD that had some of the data ripped off, I know, it doesn't make sense to me still) and my current PS2 (which was actually my sisters, which she got on launch christmas) has always worked great until recently, it is starting to not read my backups, as I stated above. With new electronics, Sony is the only company I'll buy from, other than Panasonic which is what my future 32" hd LCD tv, that im getting in my room, is. It's just a tad bit cheaper than the Sony alternative, and has almost as good clarity, I just wan't to save some cash for the PS3 I'll be putting on it

Well our Sony stuff has held out. My mother's 15 year old Walkman works, her headphones still do. My Sony headphones (current ones) are the best I've ever spent $10 on. Though our Sony camcorder finally crapped out on us after 16 years. Now some L-ion batteries for me!
Though I must admit the Blue-Ray cases for the movies are as flimsy as hell. Like AOL free trial disc case crappy.
The best TVs I've ever owned was and still is our 3 Toshibas. Seeing is that the PS3 was helped built by Toshiba I'm getting one. I plan to get all three of them. I just hope that the PS3 doesn't flop over. I like my PS2.

well spoken, my toshiba pocket pc is the nicest one Iv'e ever had, I have two of them now, an e310 and an e355, they rock. I like Toshiba pretty good too just not as much. Though I must say, for sound systems, Klipsch is the only way to go.
EDIT: I do agree that Blu-Ray cases are bad, but HD-dvd is worse http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=28907
