NES connector

Post by The Earl of Sandwich »

sorry for all of the questions at once, but does anyone have a diagram/pinout for using a floppy cable as the cartridge connector?

Don't worry about posting too many questions, nobody minds, and you also have a higher chance of actually getting answers! LOL...

Anyway, you can build the NES connector out of two floppy cable connectors pretty easy. You should take a dremel with the cutting wheel attached and chop off the one end of both connectors. You will not need the five center pins (rip up a common NES cart and you can see that there are five pins in the center than don't get used) so you can just join the two parts of the connector together and you don;t have to worry about the gap. What I did was to buld around the PCB from a cheap NES game, and I built the connector halves together while they were atached to the PCB. This made gluing them together much easyer. Then I just pulled out the PCB and I had the connector. Unfortunately, due to my lack of carefulness the pins got a little off, and some of my games would not work. However, with a little luck and some careful gluing you should have no problem. The pinout for this connector is the same as any other NES 72 pin connector.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!

Just be careful when cutting into those floppy cables or you will tear some of the pins to scheiße(mine as well).

HIGHLY RECOMMEND (carefully)pulling the (delicate)pins you will be working around. Just use needle nose, squeeze soft and pull hard. Then replace in the same (careful)manner.
Some times I wake-up in the morning and feel like (drinking a ambrosial measure of coffee) OR (punching babies).
but I must say"I do love Du-c-unt"--my first nintendo game
