NES Gameboy repair?

I just bought a Gameboy (origianl) from a thrift shop for 4 bucks with tetris. I put new batteries in but no go. No power at all. I have yet to take it apart and check if its all good inside. From the outside there is a decent amount of build up in the battery area. There were batteries in it when i bought it. No idea how long they were in there when i got it.

Are there any sites, or tips, anything at all, that can help me repair it?

I love the og tetris, and mario.

I am going to go back on monday and grab the other Gameboy. 4 bucks - 75%. Heck yes. atleast i would get a cool case for my ipod video : ) .

I also grabbed a clear green case N64 for 4 bucks too. I couldnt pass that up.

If you could post a picture that would be great.

By "buildup in the battery area", does it look white and chalky? The old batteries may have leaked and made a mess of things. From the sound of it that's what probbaly happened. I usually clean up the battery acid stuff with a baking soda paste and a knife.

well, sadly enough, i do not have a camera. the batteries that were in it seemed newer. in the last year or so. the buildup is chalky, has a bluish tint to it. i need to tool to take it apart and get a gool cleaning underway, sept it has some weird screws......

My cousins old GBO used to leak battery acid.

Yeah, that sounds like a leaked battery. And it doesn't matter what the batteries were like when you got it, it's what was in it when it happened (if it came from the thrift store, you never know what the previous owner did)

Oh yeah, it's not a NES Gameboy, it's a Nintendo gameboy! (sorry, that just drives me nuts... NES is the system Nintendo made in the 80's, the Nintendo Entertainment System)

Just clean off the the white stuff and it should work without having to open it.

To open it get some small flathead screw drivers that look like nails. They'll do the trick. I used them to open my DS.
