Hello all. I'm new here, but I've been looking at these boards for a while now, and it gave me some ideas. I came up with an idea for a different type of GameCube, not necessarily handheld, but still portable. My idea is to make a GCT: GameCube Tabletop.
My idea would have the GameCube and display combined into one slimline unit. I intend to take slimlin microATX case and gut it. I'd then open the GC up, and secure it into the case, along with a 12V battery. I'd take off one of the large flat walls of the case, and replace it with an LCD of the same size (this is where a bit of computer store dumpster diving comes in handy) and hook the GC up to it. I can then simply place the slim GC on a table, plug my controller in, and play. I think this is a good first project for me, and will be a valuable learning experience. Any suggestions on what to use for a battery or screen?

well the best choice for batteries is Li-Poly or Li-Ion but they can be VERY DANGEROUS if you don't use them properly. Next to that Ni-MH cells work wonders, bu are quite a bit heavier, which isn't as important since your making a table top system.
as for LCDs that is a very large gambit to cover. inless you have the digital video cable. You will be limited to Composite or S-Video capable LCDs.
