PSOne Headphone Jack

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

PSOne Headphone Jack

Post by SteelFox15 »

On the PCB that attaches to the main unit, there's the green headphone jack and a black jack on top of it. If I just want the headphone jack, which is already all set up and everything, is it safe to just cut off the rest of the PCB? Will it sever any important traces or anything?

Thanks.

If you cut it off beyond the second ribbon cable connector (just removed the AV ports), it would still work, but leaving two ribbon cables is a lot of junk for a portable. It would probably be better to do it the "right" way and reconnect the jack after desoldering it. Don't have pinouts memorized, but two of the leads go to a spot labeled HP_S on the back of the screen, two more go to the HP_L and HP_R spots near the HP_S, and the final lead goes to ground. One tip: put a stereo miniplug (either cut one off of an old/nonworking pair of headphones or buy one from RadioShack) in the jack BEFORE testing with your multimeter which leads go where. Otherwise, those four I mentioned above will all be connected together and you'll get nowhere.
