I've taken it!!! Well, not for a portable per-se, but I make games with Game Maker (www.gamemaker.nl) and I call my game production company Pretendo Games. I don't have a website yet...

I think it is an awesome name, in fact I considered using it. It isn't really a "Pretend Nintendo", tho, so I never did. I've decided on the name "Game Man" as it will be held in a classic Game "Boy" case.

Did you hear the name on "Doug"? That's where my inspiration came from.

actually that was thought of long ago on Doug, you know Doug, that cartoon on Nick. Doug won a Super Pretendo on one episode.

yeah that's the one, he was the 1,000,000th customer to the electronics store and he got totally absessed with the game system, and he didn't do a school paper because he was playing videogames

Dueling analogues uses the pretendo and super pretendo in "Games I'm glad were never made" series of comics.

If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

Since it has been used more than once, no matter who came up with it first, it has been plagurized once. >_> Do it anyways.

These are all nicknames that were given to the nintendo way back when it was first introduced. I remember hearing my older sister call it a Nofriendo way before we even had the internet in my house. We are talking before 1994 or 1995 here. I highly doubt anyone here has thought of some nickname that someone, somewhere has not already thought of.
