Most NOACs cost the same amount, but for easiest, I'd go with the Yobo.

Well I get Superjoy's and PowerPlayers for $30.

and they are already inside a Controller, and have a Famicom Cart with them, All you have to do is add a screen, and DONE.

If you want a nice one for hacking and that is cheap you could get a blaze retrocon. Go to www.superufo.com and look under the "Cool Stuff" section to order one. This website is the official supplier of blaze retrocon systems, so they have the lowest price. I will be hacking mine as soon as it arrives, so I can make a pinout too. has a 72 pin connector already on it, and it is both pal and ntsc compatible (if you are worried about that- don't know for sure) I payed about $30 for mine with shipping.

i'm american, and have no knowledge in japanese whatsoever, so famicom slots are of no use to me...

but seriously. could i just get a powerplayer, desoder the famicom slot, install an american NES cartridge slot, add screen, done?

any tips on how to wire?

on the yobo, what are the motherboard measurements? i want a portable that is not very big

The yobo is teeny. Don't worry about the size of the PCB, rest asured that unless you are building a ben heckendorn style NES micro you will not need it to get much (any?) smaller.
