Mp3 player
Hey anyone that has experiance with portable mp3 players please put in any advice you have about them. I've been thinking of getting on recently.
I will say this though, I know how great the iPod is. I would buy on had I have $300 to spend, but I'm bugeting myself to $125 max. That means my prime interest is the CompactFlash card ones. Also if anyone knows when the fabled iPod Flash is to come out I'd like to know.
Thanks

Probably more like a Macworld SF announcement and a release the month after, that's what Apple tends to do.jaytee wrote:the flash ipod SHOULD come out mid-january. the rumors are all pointing at a MacWorld San Francisco release.

Ok, thanks for the info about when the iPod Flash is expected to be released.
I would personal go for the minidisc but I see it as old tech and the only place I can buy on is Birtch Run and thats a good 2 hour drive. Something I'm not too enthoughs about if thats all I'm getting.

I dunno about you guys, but I am excited about this. I think If I cant get an iPod from freeipods.com, I will invest in this thing.

Yeah I did some searching around for "make your own mp3 player", but most if not all are big like the ones you'd have for an entertainment center. I know I have that already, it being my computer and a DVD player with surround.

I cant see how you can call that mp3 player crap, its basically a homebrew iPod. You arent gonna find an mp3 player that isnt similar to that. They all have a decoder chip and they read the mp3 files off of some sort of storage media. The only difference being what media is used.
Also, Gannon, would you mind sending me the schematics and PCB design of the one you have?

hey Sparkfist I boought a Nomad Muvo TXFM512 about a month ago, it was 129.95, which prettymuch fits Your price range and it's pretty good too
I know this is my first post, but like no one had given good suggestion
anywho
I think it's pretty cool, it's quite small, if I'm wearing jeans I ushally put it in the cigartee lighter pocket as it's pretty small, doesnet skip, it's recognised as a removable drive so Mp3's can just be dragged and dropped into it, FM radio works well and the voice/FM recording is alright
+ it runs on AAA batterys so if Your away from a power outlet, You can just buy some batterys for it, I use rechagables, but it's just really convienent if I run out I can just always pick some up anywhere, it runs on a single AAA for about 16 hours (MP3) so I realy need to
it's 512 MB which I think will hold about 200 WMA files or halve that in MP3 format(probably fits more though, some of the songs I've put on it are real long)
it has an FM radio/FM recording
-voice recording
-MP3/WMA playback
-the flash memory part disconnects from the battery module and plugs straight into a USB 2.0
-blue back lit display (pretty small, but has everything nesscarry on it)
-the controls are really ergonomic
-plastic looks nice but feels cheap as, dropped it a few times though and the paint still looks good, guess thats somthing
oh and just a couple weeks after I bought it they released a new model which is smaller grrr, it's dalled the N200 or V200 I can't recall
anywho its a good player, but the Battery Module is blue yuck!, almost every digital device I own is predominantly blue or has blue ascents
I ordered mine from bhphotovideo as down here in New Zealand, well shops sell Ipod and prettymuch nothing else
I've seen some IRIVER players around, great product, price to steap for my taste though
sorry about the massive retarted post if it was unesscarry
Rio's players seem good too, with expandble SD memory in some of them they might be worth a try
