Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.
Since there is no specific Gameboy forum I'll just ask this here.
-Can I light up a gbc screen internally in anyway? That means just with leds or a bulb or backlight or ledstrips or whatever, but can it be done?

You might be able to, you would need a diffuser. I was going to try, but I didn't want to tear apart my GBC and screen, again. Without a diffuser, I'd say it can't be done, unless you have 100 LEDs pointing staight up underneath it.
And we do need a Game Boy forum.
it might be relatively easy to modify an afterburner for your purposes. ive never seen an afterburner in real life though. so i dont know exactly if you could or not.
An afterburner is pretty big so I don't think there is enough room for that. I might try using a diffuser but I'm afraid I'll ruin the screen. Does it also use the ribbon cable like an orginal gameboy? I opened mine up once to try and mod it but the ribbon cable got screwed up.
And yes a Gameboy/DS forum would be great and maybe add psp to? Altough I doubt that anyone will try and mod that
You have to remove the ribbon from the back of the screen to use a diffuser.
I'll post another pic about taking the ribbon off, so just wait before you do anything.
oooooh idea coming, so in my dual project thread i posted a pic of the gbc mobo, so i think that the orange thing in it might conect to the gba sp screens, thus creating a backlit gbc.

finally got motivated again to start a portable, which i have...but with many doubts :S
Yes you can. You just need a piece of rather thick, clear plastic. Stick some leds on each corner, and it will light up all through. Just get some thin frosted plastic and it should make a great backlight. And cover it up so the light doesn't get out and it gets held in behind the screen. Maybe with aluminum foil. So it will also be reflective.

Bend the corners of the metal away from the screen so that it doesn't crack the LCD like I did to my GBC screen. The pic is of a GBA screen, but its the same concept.

Haha - no. The interface is completely different. GBASP using more pixels, more colors, different pinouts, and wouldn't fit in place of the GBC screen.
Thx. No worries on doing anything yet because I haven't got one yet (see first post) . I'll try it out once I get one. Yard sales are coming up soon so it's gonna rain gbc's
