NAMCO2p

Post by BloodNess »

ok this is only in concept and research stages but here's the overview...

just today i opened up a GBC, and saw its beatyfull circuitry, and sorry if that sounds nooby.

ok so the reason i had opened it was because yesterday or sometime, i opened up the namco 2 plug & play and saw that it's mb is SMAAALL and im talking small like it doesn't take even one half of the whole casing. so heres the conclusion for both products, dual projects. and i don't mean the two in one whole casing, i mean that i will try to make a namco2p in the gbc case, and a gbc - get this- CONSOLE!!! now concept art i will upload in the next days so stay tuned. also i have some crappy photographs of the inside of the gbc so anyone want them here?

UPDATE: i didm't want to double post so ill just put it here. ok firs "hack" for the GBC, still in its case, i replaced the triwing screws with some ps1 contrroller screws (the gbc was previously held by a rubberband) :D to avoid any future grudge matches betwen me and them (triwing screws).

BIG CHANGE (june 18): the gbc console project has been put on hold for some very obvious reasons. right now im focusing on the Namco 2 portable, on a GBC casing.

A gbc console? You'd need special equipment to extract the video from that circuit my friend. I don't think it's that easy. Also why would you want it? If you want to play gbc games on your tv you could just buy a GC + gameboy player... Gbc games are much more fun to be played on a handheld imo

That is a good idea but I think it will be more trouble then its worth. There was a link someone posted to makeing a GBA a console though.

PIC TIMEEE!!!

ok so basically, the orange thing in the top is the ribbon cable (i think thats what it's called) that connects the screen to everything else. the black thing is the cart slot and the white thing is where the power from batteries is harnessed, also in the front is the controller board, pics of that coming soon.

also sammy, could you maybe share your experiment with me ?

I to have tried to do so, with my GBO. So far I only found out how to throw the top layer of pixels into a microcontroller that spits out the pixels onto the middle of a TV screen.

No offense, but because of your semi-ignorance of what the LCD ribbon is called, this is gonna take you a while. :P

ok so good news/bad news moment:

goodies: so i completely opened up the namco 2 and saw everything from the mb to the buttons and the JOYSTICK

baddies: well for starters i can't get the joystick of the casing no matter how hard i try because of the round yellow thing. second and worst, the joystick assembly is huge and i mean like 1.5-2'' huge ok and i saww it and instantly got nervous. and i looked 360 degrees to see if there was something i could trim and saw no hope, now im thinking of a way to make the gbc larger, or deeper. i want to "big"-it to 2'', a whole 'nother inch addition. so that's pretty much the only thing thats got me stuck. questions: could i maybe saw off the yellow ball on the joystick, maybe the half or three quaters of the stick also , because i would like to replace the ball with an analog off a ps1 controller. second question: what could i trim off the joystick assembly (this one is for all those that have tinkered with something like this, like the minty namco guy, shmagooging i think it was.) third: does anyone know where i could score a sub-50$ screen/pocket tv

pics of the joystick ill post soon. please help

also the gbc console project will be on hold. so ill change the title of the thread to "Namco2p"

so, here's a photo of what i dream the NP3 (Namco Plug&Play portable, nice name  ) will look like:

http://img153.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... led8tx.png

so what canbe seen:

Start and Fire buttons

Dpad (may eliminate analog stick)

paddle for the ''twist control" for pole position, i think it's the coolest element of this project.

NP^3 (take out the ^ and just make the small 3 in the logo) would stand for the Namco Plug&Play portable a bit better, NP3 sounds like it is the third one.
