(Possibly) Rather difficult SOUND question. For Grades 11+.

Ok here I go.

Instruments create the unique sound as a result of the the way the string is plucked, and the chamber used to amplify and tune the sound. A guitar is something that is smaller and the sound is generatred in the body of the instrument, then it comes out the hole cut there in the front.

A piano is simalar but the big difference is that while a guitar (acustic?) has a small exit for the sound and uses different wood/material and shape to tune the sound. While a piano (grand) uses a harder wood and the sound generated exits out top, above the strings, even sometimes directed with the piano cover.

So it's the material, shape, physical pathway the sound travels through, and the way the sting is plucked. So about 4 varibles are taken into consideration what comparing the same note from two different instruments.

I'm pretty sure that it would be the amount of energy the wave has along with wavelength and the acoustics around it.

Also it would either be transverse or longitudinal and as sound is longituninal it would be that shape.
