Virus on my computer

There is some wakey virus on my computer!!

It wont let me install the new Norton antivirus I got so I cant deleat it!!
To install norton I think I need to deleat vsman.exe (only file left frome old verson of it)

But when I try to deleat it it says its a sharing violation!? I HAVE TRYED EVEYTHING!!

AND TO TOP THAT OFF I CANT BOOT IN SAFE MODE! I CANT GO TO THE NORTON HELP SITE THE VIRUS BLOCKS IT AND I CANT REFORMAT I DONT HAVE A WINDOWS CD!!!!

GAH WHAT DO I DO!!!???!!!!???!!!???!!??

Calm down and I'll walk you through this:

Step one: Douse your CPU in lighter fluid.

Step two: Strike a match.

Step three: Throw match and run like hell!

Step four: Buy a new computer!

In all seriousness, though, I'd just have it looked at; better safe than sorry!

Ok. You've got a few options here, one of which is to just get a Windows CD.

Others include erasing your hard drive and installing Linux (I do not recommend this), and booting from a Knoppix CD and rm-ing the offending file (I do recommend this, but you'll need someone to walk you through it, and since you won't be able to be on the 'net while you're doing this, it won't be one of us).

Now for the naggy stuff: you should ALWAYS keep a system disc lying around in case you have a problem with your computer. Even if you built the computer, the disk you used to install Windows still exists. On top of that, incremental and full-disk backups are a must (I have had catastrophic hard drive failures in the past and do not wish them on anyone). It's a little harsh, but a must, unfortunately…

Try doing all of that stuff in safe mode (press F8 before the windows logo comes up on bootup)

Another choice would be to give AVG a try, search for the free version at download.com

Also, even if you are concerned or whatever, please try to use decent spelling. You are not "pour" and you cannot "deleat" a file.

I cant boot in safe mode.

It locks up at that screen, dont you think I tryed that already!?

Are you sure it isnt vsmon.exe?

It can be found in Windows\system32\zonelabs you can't delete it because it is running, you can't stop it either. Run Msconfig look for vsmon.exe uncheck the box and reboot, now go delete that piece of junk off you system, I never installed any ZSone products.

Try fixing the problem with a linux live cd. That should be able to get in there and delete all the bad stuff.

if you have the norton cd, can you just boot it and run a virus scan from dos? i thought that was a feature since like 2002

But in reality, if he cant get rid of a virus, he should learn more about windows. Then move to linux unix or... a "mac" ....
