I'm sorry... I need to ask a noob question...

I hate to do this, but I have to ask a question that makes me look like a noob.

How much of the top of the Sony PSOne screen can I clip off? (In inches, that is.) You know, the section with the inverter on it. I know I saw this somewhere, but I can't find it by searching. I found this thread, but isn't there another thread that gives the dimensions after the top is cut off?

P.S. Just wondering... do you guys still consider me a noob, or have I been here long enough and racked up enough posts (from answers, not questions) to be considered... well... I guess the word I'm looking for here is worthy, of these forums?

basically once youve desoldered the inverter you can clip off the two thin pieces of pcb where it was soldered onto

Right... I know, but how much can you clip off? (I'm planning my case out before I get the screen... so I need measurements.)

Just cut up until you reach the other traces and components. Sorry I can't help more.

Well on mine, I hacked off the whole rounded part where the transformer is. I don't know the exact measurments, but it is from the top of the rounded edge to the top of the transformer. You can probably shave off a tad bit more, but not much; if I remember correctly, there are a few traces under there somewhere if you go too far, so just be careful!

you can cut it right down to the top of the LCD's metal casing.. i did it so i know it works.
EDIT: cut the red line

so it's basically that top part that sticks up

Just wanted to bring an old topic into this conversation. If anyone wants to, if they have a crap screen or something, please try to cut off this much:

If that works, you can extend the ribbon cable and the PCB should fit snugly under the LCD, with nothing sticking out of the bottom.

boy... I'm like the exact opposite of that

(i'm a noob and not worthy). so after the LED mod you don't use the transformer/other pin stuff

Yeah, that's right. That thing at the very top of the board is an inverter for the cathode tube. Once you remove the tube and perform the LED mod, the inverter is not necessary, and the section of board it's on can be cut off to save space. I'm just trying to figure out how much space, because I don't have the screen yet. Can't someone just measure that little piece of board for me? Please?

If you cut it to the top of the LCD, then it's 11.3cm, or 4.4 inches. Well, maybe 11.35cm.
