Starting a new NESp
I have built an NES portable in the past, but I had made many embarassing mistakes and was lazy about certain parts of that project, which is why you have not sen any pictures of the mess I made.
It worked, but it looked like I made it out of leftover junk. No offense to the hordes of franken modders here, but I really wanted something professional looking. My next protable will be using a Blaze Retrocon as the NOAC, and the case will be similar in idea to the case made by All4Sky. It will have some peices of the origional plastic cases, but will have carefully applied bondo to make it look like one seamless unit. The Retrocon is cheap, as far as NOACs go, ($15 plus shipping from HK, another $16) and it already has a 72 pin connector on it. I am also thinking of adding some non-traditional elements, such as rubber or vinyl type things on the sides to improve grip, since the portable will be heavy. Even though the NOAC and LED modded PSONE will not take much power, I still intend to use a big battery instead of AAs, so instead of the average 2-4 hour performance, it will have more like 10 hours. I fully intend to have a nice looking and very playable NES portable when this is done. I also will attempt to get some design drawings up soon.
Emulation isn't accurate. There is no substitute for real hardware!
Oh yes, can a NOAC do composite output? I think maybe the full dip package NOACs can do it, but can it be gotten from a glop? I though composite would be neat if it was possible. Can you do composite with a normal NES mobo? That would probably be used in my custom modded NES in a toaster.

So you want to know if the NOAC can output composite? I highly doubt it, because the graphics aren't worth it and it would cost more.arfink wrote:Eh? Well, the reason I asked is that RGB does look very nice when it comes directly from the game unit. For example, a Neo Geo outputs RGB very nice, since it natively supports it, and it looks amazingly good on a PSOne screen. no kidding, I have tried this with the PSOne screen and with other arcade games, its amazing! Unfortunately I have discovered that the NES PPU (the picture processing unit) only outputs composite, not even a luma and chroma. Also, decoding from composite to RGB does not improve the quality, it only makes it worse. I do know that if you replace the PPU from the NES with the PPU from the playchoice 10 you can get real RGB output, but O am not about to rip apart and expensive and rare working playchoice 10 mobo just to get RGB in my portable. Thanks for the feedback anyways guys.
