If I had an overhead, I would try that. Theres a few inches of ribbon on the back on the screen the you have to pull off, I've done it to a GBC and a GBA screen. Just make sure that you bend the corners of the metal up, or else it can crack your screen. I cracked the corner of my GBC screen (it was below the part that displays the image) and it still works. I put up some pictures later.

Really? I heard that a GBC screen gets all washed out when you try to backlight it in any way.....

Okay can someone post a pic of a Projector Panel? I cant seem to find one... and I dunno what they look like.

Find a cheap one, and show me a pic.. and have its name.

Heres a pic of a projector panel. Make sure you get at Active Matrix screen not a Pasive Matrix screen. Pasive will have a very crappy responce time where as active matrix is good. Remember these panels will be in 640x480 unless you pay a couple hundred green for an 800x600 one. The best and cheepest place to get them is eBay.

I recomend most of the Sharp models.

Do those panels weight a ton? Each one is about $30 for shipping! I thing I'll just use a LCD. I've checked a local online classifieds and overheads where about $50. $50 is about all I have right now, so is it really worth it to make one of these?

Ya, it even takes composite right on the screen board, no sound on the board, though. To adjust brightness and such sucks, because I have to turn pots on the board to make changes.
I'll post the model number of the DVD player later.
At 7.5v, the unmodded screen took .5 amps, modded took about .35 amps.

EDIT: The DVD player works without the screen, too. We're going to put it in our mini-van for the screen in there.

About a year ago, I found a DIY LCD projector guide on hackaday, and it got me interested. I don't exactly have the money to do anything like it, but if I get a job next summer, that'll be when I go for it. Or maybe I'll just buy more RAMâ€¦

One idea I had was to build a projector out of either Apple or Dell's WQXGA 30" screen. True 1080p HD!

Unfortunately, the necessary Fresnels are expensive, and the LCD + lighting about cleans me out 15 times over (though true 1080p projectors cost about $10 grand). One dayâ€¦

The colors on non-backlit screens get washed out with the smallest of backlights.

I made a projector with a old Overhead projector and a 7.6" LCD screen

If you buy one of them 7" Portable DVD players and a old overhead you can easily make a projector for under $100

I just started doing tests for a low powered projector and i jumped on here to post my results in the thread 6 months ago lol

Anyway i just used a $2 stainless steel bown and a 75w household bulb and tried to get the light to reflect off the bowl and i got the LCD screen to project a bright image on the wall

This makes it perfect for movies at night as its bright enough but uses less power than the standard 300w light which makes it cheap bulb and cheap to run

I'm about to go down to safeway (supermarket) and get one of them downlight bulbs with a standard household plug on the end as that has a reflector alreadu built in i might not even need the silver bowl to concentrate the light

So expect an update very soon

EDIT:

I just came back from safeway with a 50w downlight bulb (240v model not the 12v ones that need transformers) and that is as bright as the 75w i really can't tell a difference but this now means all i need to do is attach a socket onto the back of the old overhead projector then use a $3 downlight globe at 50w which would save me HEAPS on the power bill and actually makes this a great low powered projector that can be used all day long

I could use the dish and a 50w or 75w household globe so the bulb only cost 50cents but still a good mod i think as i would only ever use it at night anyway
