Get Bochs. It's an open source x86 PC emulator. I remember long ago I used it to install Win98 on it. It should work. Otherwise, if Bochs isn't fast enough buy VMWare. It's blazing.

VMware is free and seems to be running fine

Its all working and im gonna install win98 tomorrow but its time for sleep for me i think

It all works fine but there's a big problem

When i try to run games Its slow as hell

It lags Doom for christ sake, is there anyway to improve the speed of the virtual machine or has this all been for nothing?

Well what did you expect? Emulating an OS is slow. Just make a dual boot with 98/ME and Xp

this isnt just xp

this is because they're 32 bit and in doom's case 16 bit applications that are trying to run in a 64 bit envrioment

most things tend to work ok but it doesnt like my old games for some reason

Have you tried adjusting the amount of RAM allocated to your virtual machine? Performance is rarely an issue for me with virtual machines and they run just as fast as any dual boot system I've ever seen. Usually the only time I see performance hits is when I have more than 3 virtual machines running and that's just because I only have 2GB of RAM in my laptop. I would try installing XP x86 in a virtual machine and then run the game in Win98 compatibility mode and see if that makes any difference. Let me know how it goes.

im in the middle of exams at the momnet so im really doing this when i can

Only 2GB? i laugh

im running 512Mb, and i thought of allocating more RAM but it didnt really make much of a difference
