Anyone seen this? This variable output switching regulator is the size of the 780x family of voltage regulators, and pin compatible! This sould help make those portables a bit more efficient!

well its not really anything new (weve been using a similar product from TI in and around the N64 forums for a while), but i really like how it
a) comes with the a trim pot built in
b) is pin compatable with the 78xx series, with no extra wiring
the only problem is the price ($15 + shipping/credit card required vs. free)
good find though. maybe this could get added to the sticky in the n64 forum, at least (everyone seems to want a dc-dc for their 3.3v line)

Nah, it's only 1A, too bad: the 3.3 line needs atleast 1.5A.

damn i didnt even think of that. i guss you could use two. lol.
edit: the output current is actually determined by the RMS method. does the n64 take 1.5amps steady, or is that a peak value? because a sine wave with an 1.4A peak is 1A RMS

It depends on the game. For games requiring more power, I'm pretty sure it's a constant 1.5A....
Without games my life would have no meaning.

I like the lables.
Coincidentally, "vin" and "vout" are the directions in wich a figure moves in the fourth dimension.
Up/down, left/right, in/out, vin/vout.

They're also the standard labels for Voltage Input and Voltage Output
....

Can't you make one of those easily? I thought if you changed an LM7808, etc.'s ground reference, you could have variable output.

But that would still be a linear regulator. I.E: Not as efficient as a switching regulator.

as far as i know, you can only raise the voltage of fixed regulators.

But there is no 4th dimension (well, that we know of).
