Picked up an apple today....

Post by jeffslot »

Hi guys,

I'm pretty unfamiliar with apples. I picked up an

Apple Macintosh Imac
OS 9 G3 400 Mhz
10 G hard drive
Cdrom

The lady at the yardsale wanted $50, but I got it for $38. How did I do? How much do you think I could resell it for? Someone at work is looking for a new computer.

Thanks.

Wow, there was a yardsale here too. I think that's a decent deal. I wouldnt have gone any higher than 30, but 38 is good.

As for selling it, how does it look? Is it yucky and dented, or is it mint? And if someone wants a new compy, why would they want that slow thing :P :?:

After looking on eBay you could probably get $80 for it. How much RAM does it have?
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

that looks pretty good, actually :).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Full see-through scheme in blood red...

That's dead sexy. Too bad the only Apple machine I have is an Apple][c, but hey, its better than nothing. ^^*

Two words of advice: Put OS X on it!!! But don't put Tiger (OS 10.4) on it, unless the RAM is fully loaded (2x 512MB PC100), otherwise put Panther on it (OS 10.3).

Any other questions you might have, I own two of these, and I know them inside and out! 8)

:D Great find! I was going to trade my school a big RAM upgrade, a PC, and a laser printer for one of those, but they kept it because 1 person out of 30 in that class used it and liked it. Their loss, this was probably $100 worth of stuff!

The fastest Mac I have is a Motorola StarMax 4000 (I think) with a 200mhz 604e PowerPC, roughly half as fast as that iMac. (Actually I think an early version of OSX will run on my PowerMac 7600/132 with patches.) For you Pentium people, that's about as fast as a 400mhz P2.

That's a good price, I've seen 400mhz imacs go for as much as $75 recently. But, if you like it enough to keep it, buy OS X and stick it on there. It's worth it.
I have a couple iMac's, including a 500? graphite. They're perfect for making tabletop arcade machines.

I liked those when they got them at my school from a fund raiser that my mom ran. They said they would give them both to me but I haven't seen them yet. They are green and I got the box for a blue one. That red is awesome though.
