portable dvd player problem

i have an audiovox portable dvd player that came with a battery pack. Ive been trying to get it to run off the battery forever but it wont work. So i looked at the small print on the back of the batt. and it says 7.2v. The problem with this is the dvd player runs off 9v. Why would they give me a battery that wont power it? Am i missing something or am i just dumb??

Don't panic, this may sound obvious but are the two jacks on the player? perhaps the 9v one is for using a wall-wart and there is another (same size) that up-steps the voltage (or for that matter down steps it if it don't need all 7.2 volts). I seem to remember seeing situation this on something else before.

Other than that maybe it's just somebody's fault, you can always call up customer service and complain that the battery pack the player came with doesn't work and maybe they'll give you the proper one.

The wall input is probably what's 9V, that's what initially goes into the player, but not the player uses. The wall adapter drops it to 9V and then once inside tha player it gets fine-tuned ot 7.2.

There is only 1 jack on it and it says 9v Nes_Fanatic is probably right. it probably only needs 7.2v. Well i guess ill just keep messing with it. Maybe if i dont ever get it to work ill use the batt for a portable. I did mod an atari to 4x4 and composit video but never got around to buying a screen or building a case. What i really want to do is an n64 if i can ever find one cheap cause im sure not using my old one and risking destroying it. 7.2v is enough for an n64 right? I know one line takes 3.3 and i already have the (free) ti regualtor thing.
