Rocks recording audio

Today i was whatching Ghost Hunters the new episode with the shining hotel and they said it was possible to accsidently record audio in quarztz crystel or limestone is that true and if so is there more info on this

that show is useless. ive seen parts of it, and it appears that the kids have been pre-briefed on what sort of things to say, and the host dude just totally leads them on and makes up 'spooky' stories about the house as they 'explore'.

anyways, no. sound cant get recorded in rock as far as i know. ...

edit: after saying that i realized that we might not actually be talkign about the same show... anyways. i still dont think rocks are going to be recording much sound...

In order to record or save sound in something like those it has to be done like how they record music to a vinal record. I highly doubt it would work, and if it did wouldn't be very clear. An example of this would be from a CSI episode were they try to get sound off a clay pot that was being made, and they believed they could get part of a conversation off of it. Again if you're using that method it's possible but not likely.

Also if you are going to do any recording of ghosts, you use low level sound recording. Last I heard if you put a recording device around an area where ghost are and then you listen to vocals that fall in the 30 decible range you can hear them, not understand what's said buy you'd hear like inaudiable conversation.

Meh, and that Spark's right. The whole vibrating groove thing may work, but then again, it should work on almost any smooth surface, and I don't know why you'd want to try.
