Ok, SO. Long time no talk here. Im collecting parts for a portable n64, Im getting the console tonight, I just sent a member here some dough for a psone screen, and I have the parts for the 3.3 volt regulator.
I have a very basic, basic wiring diagram, and Im wondering if it will work so far. I figured I`d have 2 9.6 volt batteries in parallel. is that enough? Anybody sees anything wrong with this, please tell me.
Keep in mind, this is just for power. Its very basic at this point, Im just lookin for pointers.
Hey Sky, is there an equation that'd allow me to calculate how much time i'll have with my battery? I think a while ago your estimate for my 4800mAH battery would be ~3 hours. It's not that I don't trust you, but I am trying to factor in everything together so I can figure out if I really need to spend 45 more bucks

So what exactly are you trying to power? Name all components and their mods (LED mod... etc.)
*PSone screen w/ LED mod (LEDs rated at 18,000mcd, but I have a 20ohm reg on there so they don't white out the screen)
*4800mAH battery at 7.2V
*5v 25mm fan that moves 3.5cfm
My main concern is that my fan will consume all the juice in my batteries and thus limit my game time. But thanks for the help in advance.

2.7 hours ain't a bad deal. However, will graphics intensive games consume more power and decrease that or will that estimated time be an average for all games?
Also, devising a circuit that allows my charger to power the system is the next thing on my list in terms of annoyances. I haven't had a conclusive solution to this yet even though many people on this forum have discussed it. If its not much trouble, could you direct me to a place where i can figure this out?

1) The graphics can craze the power. Games like perfect dark and DK64 take a ton to power the GPU, so yes. Maybe 300 mAh increase.
2) You can always create a manual switch circuit to change between power from wall charger and battery. Or you can whip up an automatic plug in thing... I'll think of something.
N64 does NOT take that much power. i've tested it myself (with a screen, fan, and everything hooked up) and the whole shabang took 1100ma on average. perfect dark actually consumed less power that most of the other games at 1000ma (starwars racing took the most at around 1300ma average). that's around 4 hours with a 4800mah battery.

A guy I know told me the story about the N64's GPU…
The people who created the computers that rendered the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park went back to those machines, and found that they could condense them into single chips. These chips ran pretty hot, weren't nearly as powerful in real time, and were somewhat impractical for use as video cards (though I believe some cards WERE made). Few months later, Nintendo comes along, ready to build a new console, and they've got this chip there, so Nintendo buys it up and starts working on the N64 (naturally they modify it some to do what they want). It made a fairly nice GPU, but it still took a lot of power…
