What program for ripping music from....

I could use a decent program (hopefully free) for stuffing my 12-inch LPs into my iPod. A little help would certainly, um, help. Is there by chance, one that also has a sound correction function to eliminate or reduce a record's snap-crackle-pop sounds?

I'd say the easiest solution would be to use a Griffin iMic. I've tried it out and I think it sounded surprisingly good. The only thing in question is what software you're going to use. I can't really help you much there, but Audacity is Windows compatible isn't it? That would work, but you might want to just look around... If you happen to have a Mac handy, it comes with free software for "ripping" vinyl.

i use Cool Edit/Adobe Audition. It does feature a hiss reduction feature, as well as a pop and click eliminator as well..

What you do, is get a record player with a headphone jack, a line in cable, and Adobe Audition (grey area alert on the 3rd one). Line in record, there won't be much hiss in the background. Genius!

sony sound forge is real good for editing things. it has some features that help remove pops and stuff.

and for recording you can just use line in + sound recorder.

I use sound recorder on for it. It works quite well accually I tryed audicity and it didn't work on my laptop.

Use Audacity. It will do what you need it to, it's free (and legal to have for free

), and there are various plug-ins you can use.

Of course if you want to record sound from a turntable, connect the player to a preamp, then to the line-in jack. If the turntable has a ground lead, connect it to the preamp's ground or the screw that holds an outlet cover on. (Otherwise you get what's called the "60 cycle hum", a buzzing/humming sound caused by electricity.)

Oh yeah, and no references to warez or illegal file sharing

I remember seeing a program a while ago that exported a music file from a scanned picture of the record.
