help! computer problem!

my computer is functioning fine, but i have a problem. ever since friday, the fan has been really loud. like i can hear it from 20 feet away. on friday, i installed the game jadi knight: dark forces II, but i uninstalled that because of the fan. i am doing a mcafee virus check right now, and i deleted files that i dont need (like over 500 MB) can somebody please tell me what is wrong? i was thinking it might be because its so hot (85 degrees at 9:30) but i didnt have this problem last year with the same computer. thanks

85*F? Mine runs at 92*F idle... oh well. Are you sure someone didn't tamper around with the bios or cmos settings?

i mean its 85 outside. im pretty sure nobody did anything, but man this is freakin loud! i live in wisconsin, so 85 at night is really hot. also, how could i fix the bios or cmo if that is the problem?

If it was a car, I'd say wheel bearing failure, but I don't think fan bearings fail like thatâ€¦

How old is the computer and how long is it on every day (on average)? The fan may be wearing out. (The bearings inside wear out over time.)

This has nothing to do with software. That's like saying your car is making awful grinding and banging noises because you changed the station on the radio.

Try opening it and blowing the fan out with compressed air (preferably out of a real compressor, but those pansy cans work too). However you will probably need to replace the fan. It's not hard unless it's the power supply fan. If that is the case, get a new power supply.

the computer is a windows XP built in late 2004 for christmas... i keep it on a lot... its hardly turned off

As I said before, the software is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if it was running Windows, Linux, BSD, BeOS, NeXTSTEP, or JUYFUI^FO OS, you'd have this problem. ("built in 2004" and "hardly turned off" help a lot though

)

Is it the fan on the back of the case? If so take the side cover off the PC, unplug the fan and leave the case open with a bit of room around it until you get a new fan. (I ran the PC I'm on now like that for 2 months without any problems.) If it's the processor or power supply fan, leave everything as is and live with it until you can buy a new fan. You can't disconnect these and expect it to last very long.

Don't delete anything else; this is not a software problem and neither the game nor viruses nor extra files caused it. Age did. And the sands of time stop for no man. (though they do get stuck in your rug...)

Actually, I can see where there may be a small chance of it being a software problem, though it's not likely enough to look into. My motherboard came with a program that adjusts the fans, and you can have customs settings for coolness and quietness. While highly unlikely, it's always possible a file was corrupt or something, so the setting is wrong.

Like I said, this probably isn't it... but it gives me a chance to prove bic wrong

Well clean out the computer, My freinds has like major dust in it, and the fan was so loud, So i cleaned it out, and its quiet.

Just take the case off,Get some compressed air, and poof.
