NES saftey
I wanted to take my NES apart and see what I can do about portableizing it, or at least look at the circuit board, but my mom says it might carry a charge even with not beeing plugged in. Is this true?

What you should know about (you don't have to act on it, but know the risk) is that YOU might carry a charge that could fry the NES. At the very least, touch a grounded area before you touch the board.
@vb_master: if it was the one with the built-in CRT, she was right. Those carry a charge of several kilovolts, even when off. If you touch the point where the flyback transformer connects to the tube, you're dead. Period. Unless you discharged it first of course.
Warning: don't mess around with CRT monitors. They ARE dangerous!

How would you discharge it first? Actually the flyback capacitor only can really put out about 400v DC at a safe amperage (It WILL hurt like Hellt though, mabye char the end of your fingers)
BUT STILL, Transformers regardless are dangerous because the changing in the current messes with the pulses of the central nervous system and therefore renders you motionless (that is why AC is dangerous, and why you always work on AC current with a buddy, so he can beat you with a 2x4 if you get juiced by the AC current and he won't become part of the circuit)
