Great Deal

Post by vskid »

Today my neighbor brought over an ATI all-in-wonder Radeon 8500dv with 64 mb of memory and gave it to us for free. My computer runs a lot better now, and now has a tv tuner. Anyone else been given something lately that was worth a good amount of money?

PS: sorry if you consider this spamming, I'm just wondering if anyone you know is nice or stupid (my neighbor is just nice and knew our video card sucked)

I've had almost the exact same videocard (mine has 128MB) in my computer for the past 4-5 years. I love it. The TV Tuner is great and I find myself using it a lot. Better and cheaper than a TiVo. Plus I haven't gamed on a PC since Unreal Tournament 2004, so I don't need anything better... yet. :)

I put a TV Wonder VE card in my 2.6 gig Celeron Presario last year. (Bought the card on sale at Best Buy for $10 8)) It works pretty well, but it's a bit sensitive to interference and noise on the cable line, but it's great for the price!

I want to track down another cheap compatible tuner and make a MythTV or Freevo box. (I've already got a P3 500 based DeskPro as my HTPC, but if I do things right I'll have a P3 930 DeskPro to work with, which I can add a DVD-ROM drive I got from a junked machine. As long as the drive works...)

As far as this machine goes, my friend gave me his old Radeon 9200 128mb card when he needed more power than it could provide. It works just fine for what I need! (Mostly image editing and video, some Unreal Tournament...)
